HIRE ME!!!!

If you would like to know a little more of my background and skills, I have updated my LinkedIn site. Included on that site is my Power Point Presentation. Also my profile has been revised, so check it out. You also find information about seminars I have attended and AutoCAD and Civil 3d Training I have participated in. I am also on Monster, Webdesignjobs, and Snag-a-Job.
Again if there is something that I can provide you to help in your decision making please leave a comment here or a message through LinkedIn or Monster. Take care and have the best day of your life by hiring me!
Pueblo is in a depressed state with unemployment at 11.2%.  But that is not the only reason I wish to leave this City. Pueblo is a good city but it lacks what I am really looking for in a place to live and grow. I prefer a larger city and what it has to offer not only professionally but also personally. My favorite music is Jazz. There is none here, not even on the radio. I love the cultural opportunities a larger city offers. There is not a lot of that here. I was born and raised in Pueblo and I will always have a love for this city, however after spending 17 years in Portland OR I have grown accustomed to the offerings of a larger city.
I don’t think I can emphasize this enough. You will be getting a loyal, dedicated, experienced and educated employee. An individual who is a team player but also can work alone and get the project done right, on time and on budget. An employee with 3 design awards, one national and 2 local. An employee whose only career has been in Civil Engineering and Land Surveying. How about giving me a try?
Just watched the news and as I said earlier Pueblo has a reported unemployment rate of 11.2%. The highest for large counties in Colorado. After talking to people at our workforce office the unreported rate is approaching 20%. Not good.

Sorry It's Been So Long

I must apologize for doing a post in so long. It has been a busy summer personally and now that it has slowed I can devote more time to my career search. Please do not misunderstand me I have continued my search however the part that was neglected was this blog.
I am open to recruiter’s although they must be employer paid agencies. As time passes without a guaranteed income I have to be mindful of finances.
In my tenure as Civil Engineering Design Technician I have gained many skills, abilities and talents. My career began as a draftsman. Actually drawing the old fashioned way, by hand. I feel that this gives me an advantage over those who have only drawn my electronic methods. Although CAD drafting and design programs produce plans in a quicker time frame, I sometimes feel that the thought that went into them is not as it used to be. Because of this belief I feel that it makes me a better designer. I haven’t lost that skill of thought. This not to say that today’s technicians are not as good, they most certainly are.
I have been fortunate to have been a part of some exciting projects such as the East and West Side Light Rail Projects in Portland Oregon. After the completion of the East Side project Tri-Met was awarded as being the best transit system in the nation. Being a member of the design team I felt elated that the system was given that honor.
Like sneakers? Well another captivating and intense project was the Nike World Campus in Beaverton Oregon. The firm I was with at the time was a subcontractor to the main Architectural firm for the project. We were responsible for site design and drainage. Through many long hours and weekends we met the deadline on-time. Of all the sub-contractors on the project we were the only ones on time and had no revisions in our plans. Yes there were change orders but our basic plans were right on the money the first time.
I’ve taken enough of your time for now. If you would like my resume or any additional information please leave a comment with the best way of contacting your firm. Thanks for reading and I promise to post more often so please check back.

Well the market here is still very dry. VERY DRY. I am still available but opportunities here in the Pueblo area are extremely rare. I’m now looking for any type of employment that will help me get enough capital to create my own technician service. Although I have in a manner of speaking been doing that for a number of years, I am trying to make it a full time business where I approach it differently. Instead of giving the client a choice of hiring me as a temporary or as a contractor I would just be a contractor. It means more hassles for me especially in the area of taxes. I welcome any ideas or comments.
Hey…I am still very much open to full time employment with your wonderful firm. So how about giving me a try?

Time To Hire Me

Three design awards. Excellent design skills. Expert in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Great field engineering capabilities. Superb client repore. Exceptional surveying capabilities. A valuable asset to the organization I am affiliated with. This is the kind of employee you need. Not only am I all of the above but I am also loyal and dependable. Most people have an average of 6 careers in their professional life. I have had only Civil Engineering and Land Surveying. Not many professionals have this in their past. I am a team player but also work alone. I do what it takes to get the job done.
Another what I think is humorous fact about my past. My first engineering job was in Colorado Springs CO. It was located in a four story building which the firm I was with occupied the third floor. On the fourth floor was the FBI. We shared the same HVAC vents. We could hear everything. It was great.
Until next time. HIRE ME!!!!

Now Is The Time

I have been blessed with several design awards. Three of which are Nike World Headquarters which involved site, utility and storm design. Another is the Murray Boulevard Widening Project in Beaverton Oregon that involved taking a two lane highway and widening it to a four lanes with a center turn lane and considerable storm drainage improvements. A third is the Banfield Light Rail Project in Portland Oregon. My responsibilities on this 14+ mile project was the Hollywood area transfer station and track layout in the downtown Portland segment. I would be very happy to discuss these projects and others In order to help in my search for employment I am developing a new resume, power point and brochure. As always I am more than willing to relocate. You will be getting a loyal, dedicated, experienced and educated employee who knows what it takes for a project from beginning to end. I am also versed in land surveying, specifications, inspection and marketing. I am single and have no children or family or personal obligations here in Pueblo so I am free to relocate. I also have a portfolio for your review that has pictures of some of my accomplishments, drafting and design examples, inspection report examples, original letters of reference and surveying examples. I’m very anxious to continue my career in Civil Engineering and Land Surveying. I guarantee you that you will be getting a great employee.
in person. Let’s do that.

I also promised some humors story’s from my career experiences. This one I call “Getting tanked. We were doing some marine surveying on the Willamette River in Portland. We set a control tripod with triple prism on one shore. The wind came up and into the river it went. In a spot that was about 15 feet deep. Great what are we going to do now? Well as it would happen one of the firm’s employees was a scuba diver. He volunteered to go down and get it. Being a good diver, he brought an extra air tank. Well I happened to have a camera with me. One of my crew members who was with me was leaning on it. I took the picture and gave it to the people who put out the company newsletter. They published it with the caption “Jim gets tanked on the job!!!” I don’t think he has forgiven me yet.
Until next time thanks for visiting my blog and be safe.

I'm Ready To Work For You

Still out there looking. It does appear to be looking up however. Not very much but a little bit. And not in Pueblo. I am still looking to relocate, preferably to a large city. After spending several years in the Portland Oregon area, I find not only the career opportunities but also the personal activities that come with living in such an area very appealing. I have downloaded the applications for registered land surveyor in Colorado and fully intend to apply and take the tests. Although this will not happen for several months due to the testing schedule, I hope that you will wish me luck. Again if I can answer any of your questions or forward a resume to you please just leave me a comment. Thanks again for your time and consideration.
